Inside:
We’ve got lots of good stuff on tap this time, and hope you agree. You’ll meet rising (he’s 6-7) indoor star Justin Duff and up-and-coming beacher Kacie MacTavish, who recently earned her first FIVB paycheck in Seoul, Korea.
MacTavish is pointing to the FIVB event in Quebec City, which takes place July 19-24. This is a new Canadian venue, as previous events took place in Toronto and Montreal, the most recent of those in 2007. We’ll have full coverage next issue.
Our players are understandably delighted, Olympic hopeful Annie Martin saying, “I’m really happy. It’s rare that we have a chance to play in front of our family and friends. The atmosphere will be extraordinary, and I am convinced that all the players on the Tour will want to come back.” Even FIVB head Jizhong Wei is enthused, saying, “Quebec as a host city reflects the exceptional growth and popularity of the World Tour as it extends its reach to all corners of the globe.”
There has been a lot to report on the past while, including the World Championships from Rome, Youth Championships and a handful of major indoor events, notably Pan American Cups in Gatineau (the men’s) and in Juarez, Mexico (the women’s). We’ve got extensive coverage of those, with reporters in the field, including former National Team member Don Saxton.
We’ve added a new feature, called Free Balls! It’s a look at volleyball in the larger world. And there’s a special treat, as you’ll meet a top mixed martial arts fighter who grew up playing volleyball.
Of course, we’ve got all our usual features and even a new contributor, Mav Hatch. We’re asking you to reach out to one of our top officials, too.
In closing, some sound advice from Kacie Mac: “Be nice to people and enjoy your life, because you only live once!”
