The Week in Review

The OUA picked up regular season play this weekend, but a handful of teams were still playing as a warm up. The week before, Western, Windsor, York and Ryerson played at the York Excalibur Tournament. Queen’s kept themselves busy out west at the Spartan Holiday Classic, and McMaster went down south to play some NCAA exhibition games.

Western picked up where they left off (which was York Excalibur Tournament Gold Medalists) with two more straight set victories to keep their perfect season in tact. McMaster had just leapfrogged Queen’s into second seed right before the holiday break. They went to five sets for a victory in Laurier, and lost to Waterloo the following night. Guelph, who had the exact same competition while doing the Waterloo road trip, faired much better by winning twice without dropping a set. That catapults them into a tie with the Marauders. Queen’s only played one match on the weekend, and they won handily. With the McMaster loss, those three teams now sit tied with 9 wins, though Queen’s has a game in hand.

The two squads that were slightly trailing the leaders had a harder weekend. Windsor and Laurier were looking to strike with 6-4 records, but both lost two matches and fall to even, knocking them off the leaders scoreboard:
