Updated NORCECA: Guatemala Pool Play (Video)

The NORCECA Guatemala event began pool play yesterday.  With the lack of a live stream, we have to wait for results from NORCECA themselves.  Luckily for us, Maverick Hatch took video of his second game of the day where he and partner Sam Schachter played the USA 1 team of Jason Wight and Michael Bruning.  We have posted the video up above.  Our other Canadian men's team of Christian Redmann and Ben Saxton won their only match of the day against Trinidad & Tobago 2-0.  The results from the first day of pool play were as follows:

The Canadian women finished the first day of pool play similarily to the men.  CAN-2 of Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas split their two matches defeating Cayman Islands and falling to USA-1.  The CAN-1 team of Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney won their only match of the day against Cuba 2-1.  Heather Bansley wrote about their game against Cuba on her blog after the match.

Unable to maintain the lead, faltering after a couple tough serving aces by the Cubans, we lost the first set 18-21.  We started the second set much like the first, taking the lead early.  This time we were able to maintain the lead, and with some tough serving we won 21-15, taking it to a third set.  The third set we were back and forth.  After a judgment call that didn't go our way, the game was tied at 13-13.  We sided out to put us at 14-13, then I served an ace to win the game!
