FIVB: Rome World Championships Elimination (Live Video)
The elimination round has begun over in rome for the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. Only one Canadian team made it out of pool play on the women's side of the tournament and into the round of 32. That was Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney. The tournament would end here for them as they played Jen Kessy and April Ross of the USA and lost 2-0. On the men's side of the tournament, pool play is still finishing up with the lone Canadian men's team of Ben Saxton and Christian Redmann playing the number three seed of Marcio Araujo-Ricardo from Brazil. Redmann-Saxton are currently 1-1 in pool play and would need a win here for a chance to go on.
Edit: Christian and Ben did lose their last pool play game but did make it to the round of 32 in the elimination round. Volleyball Canada cites their points f/a ratio:
They advance by being among the eighth best third place finishers thanks to their solid total points for and against ratio of 1.00. The top-two in each of the 12 pools all advance as well to the round of 32.
