We’re in!

Canada will have teams to cheer for at the upcoming London Olympics. Both our men and women locked up Olympic berths at the Continental Cup in Mexico in late June. Still can’t tell you who’s going, though, as it all comes down to Canadian trials in Toronto on July 7. Christian Redmann - who’s profiled this issue - and Ben Saxton will square off against Martin Reader and Josh Binstock, while Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney will face veterans Annie Martin and Marie Andree Lessard, the winners punching their tickets to the Games. Catch our Olympic preview for the lowdown on London.

Unfortunately, Canada came up short again indoors, though our guys gave it a heck of an effort in Long Beach, as you’ll read. They also started World League play with a bang by going 2-0 in Toronto, then nosedived before defeating Finland to lock up third place.

The World League matches took place right next door to the spectacular Canadian Nationals, which are also covered in detail this issue. Everyone was a winner at Nationals. Even the prime minister came out to watch.
There’s more on the Olympic front, as former men’s National Team captain Jason Haldane is suiting up for the host Brits and Elodie Li Yuk Lo, who grew up in Toronto and still calls it home, is representing tiny Mauritius on the beach. Her partner Natacha has just been chosen to carry the country’s flag!

Enjoy!
