You'll notice that Canadian Olympian Martin Reader is not playing in this competition.  He is recovering from a small injury from London and therefore parter Josh Binstock will be teaming up with Canadian Men's Indoor National Team member Steve Gotch.  Binstock and Gotch manage to grab the 2nd seed behind last year's champions .

A little bit of an odd seeding on the women's side.  What stands out for me is that the defending champions Kacie MacTavish and Julie Rodrigue are seeded third.  They have played in eight FIVB World Tour stops this year and won the event last year.  Their finishes this year bounce between 41st and 33rd.  Compare that to the #2 seed of Broder-Valjas who competed in 5 World Tour stops this year, and also had results of either 41st or 33rd.  I guess no weight in the seeding is given to the defending champions.

The matches begin tomorrow, Friday August 17th at 9:00 a.m. PST (12:00 p.m. EST).  Check out the following page for updates.  I will be in New York City this weekend and will be unable to follow the tournament live.  Check back on Sunday for final results.
