New man on the beach
That’s Steve Anderson, of course
Spring is in the air – or so rumor has it – so we’ve loaded up this issue with beach. First, you’ll meet new Nation- al Team coach Steve Anderson, who knows a thing or two about getting athletes to the Olympic Games and win- ning once there.
Our Beach Preview will tell you who’s playing with whom this year, cause there have been some shakeups, especially on the men’s side. And you’ll get the lowdown on the FIVB’s new World Tour format, which isn’t at all welcoming for Canucks. It looks like we’ll have to slug it out at NORCECAs, and even they won’t be a breeze anymore.
There’s also an item on trials for the FIVB’s various age-group beach events (U19, U21 and U23), at which Canada is expected to make its presence felt yet again. Not to forget the indoor scene. We’ve got coverage of the CIS and CCAA Championships, and some good news for Ontarians, as teams from that province made quite a stir at Nationals.
On a personal note, we meet fast-rising beach star Ben Saxton and the vivacious
Marisa Field, aka “Reesey Piecey.” We also check out the disabled program, with a focus on men’s coach Ray Sewell, who once came ever so close at Beach Nationals. You’ll also read about how “Brinks and Freddie” won it all in China, about what’s ahead in World League and how the Champions League wound up for Glenn Hoag and his troops.
Our usual contributors are on board to make this another memorable issue. At least, we hope so...
