Volleyball BC to Bid for Women's National Team

Volleyball BC is looking to bring the women's National team to the Richmond Oval.

Volleyball BC is currently putting together a bid to bring the Women's National team to the Richmond Oval for 2017. The women's team is based at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

Check out the bid website here!

The Richmond Oval was used for the speed skating competitions at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Since that time, it's be transformed into a multi-sport facility which includes 13 volleyball courts. The Richmond Oval was also one of the starting points for the Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence, jumping on board with the program back in 2010.

“We believe that Richmond is the optimal home for the Canadian Women’s National Volleyball team in 2017, offering excellent holistic athlete development in a world class training facility, that is situated in a city that can also serve the needs of the athletes off the court,” said Chris Densmore, Executive Director, Volleyball BC. “We are committed as an organization to foster the development of Volleyball in BC. Exposure to the sport at its highest level for British Columbians will significantly contribute to that mission.”

Volleyball Canada will be making the call for applications in the near future and will announce the winner in 2015.

Considering the women's team plays second fiddle behind the University of Manitoba Bisons when it comes to practice times, this change couldn't come soon enough. What better to push our team to the Olympics then a place where Olympians were crowned?
