The World Championship is well under way in Poland, but for some players this prestigious tournament must come to an early end and their dreams of standing on the podium will have to wait for another four years. Four players have already been injured. Some injuries are more serious than others. The four players are:

Ivan Zaytsev (ITA)

Ivan heavily sprained his ankle when he come back down from a block. He landed with one foot and stepped on his teammate, Simone Butti. He immediately went down and could not walk. Zaytsev had to be carried off the court.

Zaytsev is currently back in Rome where he will undergo extensive therapy for a faster recovery.

Victor Yosifov (BUL)

Similar to Zaytsev, Victor Yosifov also suffered an ankle injury, except his was much worse. After blocking, Victor landed on Dimitry Muserskiy's foot and injured his ankle. Victor broke his fifth metatarsal bone and underwent surgery in Warsaw.

Bruno Rezende (BRA)

Bruno injured his hand when diving for a ball against Tunisia. Bruno dove and his thumb hit Mauricio Silva's shoe.  After the match an X-Ray was taken and no broken bones were revealed. He missed the matches with Finland and South Korea. When South Korea played against Brazil, the South Korean team doctor gave tips to Bruno for his injury and even gave him acupuncture to help the healing process. After a few days of rest, Bruno was back in action as he helped Brazil beat Cuba.

Jenia Grebennikov (FRA)

Jenia injured his pinky finger on his left hand against Belgium, in the fifth set. The ball bounced off the court and hit his finger. Since this is not a grave injury, we will see Jenia back on the court in the next matches.
