Canadians In Action: January 17th

Saturdays are game-days and we've got a full schedule of matches for your viewing pleasure. Here's what on tap for today!

Bundesliga - Germany

SWD Powervolleys Düren vs. TSV Herrsching - 1:30 p.m. ET/ 10:30 a.m. PT

Düren and the trio of Canadians have a chance to pull away from the heap today when they take on TSV Herrsching. Steve Hunt (Brooklin, Ont), Blair Bann (Edmonton, Ab) and Ciaran McGovern (Grande Prairie, Ab) and teammates sit in third place, just a point ahead of the crowded fourth spot. Herrsching sit far outside of the playoff picture and already have a 3-0 loss of their record to the Powervolleys, which may be the best nickname ever.

SVG Lüneburg vs. TV Rottenburg - 2:00 p.m. ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

SVG Lüneburg has been the surprise of the season and they have a shot at making it five straight against TV Rottenburg today. Not only is it important to keep the streak alive, but Lüneburg also sits only a point ahead of their opponents. A win today would nestle them securely in the middle of the playoff race. Libero Erik Mattson (Scarborough, Ont) will try and help them to do just that.

LNV - France

Tours VB vs. Arago de Sète - 2:00 p.m ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

The defending LNV champs did not have a stellar start to the season, but they have turned things around and have won their last 4 of 5. Nicholas Hoag (Sherbrooke, Que) is closing in on 200 kills in is sophomore season as a pro, with 184 so far this season, needing only 16 more. The memory of a 3-0 to Sète back in November should be enough to motivate the 22-year old and his team.

GFC Ajaccio vs. Tourcoing - 2:00 p.m. ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

A pair of former Trinity Western Spartan teammates will be going head-to-head today when Ajaccio and Tourcoing faceoff. We're sure Rudy Verhoeff (Calgary, Ab) will be happy to see Dan Jansen van Doorn (Langley, B.C.) just as much and he'll like to see his team's 1-12 record. Ajaccio is right in the thick of the playoff picture, in a three-way tie for fourth with Lyon and Tours. Brett Dailey (Ottawa, Ont) missed a number of games but has quickly established himself as one of the top blockers in the league, averaging just under a block a set.

Becky Pavan's (Waterloo, Ont) club team might have the sweetest jersey's we've seen in a while. The blue and pink for the aptly named Angels is a sight to see on the court. Today the sleek looking Angles take on Venelles for a chance at three big points.
