LNV: Lyon Hands Cannes Second Loss
ASUL Lyon handed AS Cannes only their second regular season loss today in a 3-2 (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13) victory over the LNV's top team.
Canadians Adam Simac (Ottawa, Ont) and Toon van Lankvelt (Rivers, Man) both played big roles for Lyon in the win; van Lankvelt scored 18 points (16 kills, 2 blocks) and Simac added another 11 (7 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace).
The match was hard-fought throughout it's entirety, with Lyon taking the first two sets. The league-leading Cannes wasn't willing to lay down and fought back to force a fifth. In the fifth, neither team gave an inch, with Lyon closing it out at 15-13 with a big block in the middle by Quentin Jouffroy.
With the win, Lyon now has 27 points and moves up into a tie for fourth with Tours VB and GFC Ajaccio, right in the thick of the playoff race.
