Canadians in Action: January 24th

Kyla Richey transferred this week to Rote Raben Vilsbiburg and suits up for the first time this weekend against National team teammates Jenn Lundquist and Lucy Charuk

Bundesliga

VT Aurubis Hamburg vs. Rote Raben Vilsbiburg - 12:00 p.m. ET/ 9:00 a.m. PT

VT Aurubis Hamburg is looking to end their three-game slide against a new-comer to the Bundesliga and a friendly face. The match against Rote Roben Vilsbiburg, who just finished a losing streak of their own, is also Canadian Kyla Richey's (Robert's Creek, B.C.) first match for the German club. Jenn Lundquist (Surrey, B.C.) and Lucy Charuk (Tsawwassen, B.C.) sit only two points back of Richey's Vilsbiburg as both teams battle to get into the quarterfinals.

SWD Powervolleys Düren vs. TV Rottenburg - 1:30 p.m. ET/ 10:30 a.m. PT

Düren is currently sitting in third in the Bundesliga and have an excellent chance to separate themselves from the pack a little more when they take on Rottenburg, who's who spots and six points behind the Powervolleys. A little revenge is also on the menu, as one of Düren's five losses came at the hands of Rottenburg, a 3-2 loss on November 16th. Don't miss out on Blair Bann (Edmonton, AB), Ciaran McGovern (Grande Prairie, AB) and Steve Hunt (Toronto, Ont) as they storm the Bundesliga!

SVG Lüneburg vs. VSG Coburg/Grub - 1:30 p.m. ET/ 10:30 a.m. PT

SVG Lüneburg has been having an outstanding rookie season in the Bundesliga so far and were just named the Bundesliga North Team of the Year for 2014. They'll look to continue rolling in that good fortune against Coburg while Erik Mattson (Toronto, Ont) could do a former club teammate a favour today with a 3-0 win.

CV Mitteldeutschland vs. TV Ingersoll Bühl - 2:00 p.m. ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

We haven't seen much of CV Mitteldeutshland this year due to the ankle injury of Canadian Michael Amoroso (Toronto, Ont). Now he's back and it's time to get Chemie Volley out of the basement of the Bundesliga. It's as good a time to start as any, as their opponent Bühl sits in the final quarterfinal spot for the playoffs. A big three-points today and a Coburg loss could get MItteldeutshland into the race in a hurry.

LNV

Béziers vs. Mulhouse - 2:00 p.m. ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

Their might not be a better chance for Rebecca Pavan's (Waterloo, Ont) Béziers Angels to get into the playoffs than today. They currently sit a mere to points behind this week's opponent, Mulhouse, who are in the fourth and final playoff spot. Three points could put them in the drivers seat with Mulhouse on the outside looking in.

Tours VB vs. Tourcoing - 2:00 p.m. ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

The LNV playoff race is a war-zone right now, something Tours' Nick Hoag (Sherbrooke, Que), is well aware. Unfortunately for Dan Jansen van Doorn (Langley, B.C.) on the other side of the net, the pressure is mounting, not from the playoffs, but from relegation. Tourcoing has mustered only one win this year, a welcome sight for Tours after a tough Champions League loss earlier this week.

Ajaccio vs. AS Cannes - 2:00 p.m. ET/ 11:00 a.m. PT

Rudy Verhoeff (Calgary, AB) and Brett Dailey (Ottawa, Ont) must be looking their lips as league-leading AS Cannes, who seemed invincible earlier in the season, are looking more and more human by the day. Cannes has recently dropped matches to Lüneburg and Lyon, two teams featuring Canadians, and obviously their has to be some sort of correlation here. Sitting right in the middle of the pack and only seven points behind the leaders, an upset would suit them well.
