Bundesliga: Marcelle Leads Dresdner to Championship
For the second-year running, Dresdner SC are the German Bundesliga women's volleyball champions after a 3-2 win over Allianz MTV Stuttgart on Wednesday, winning the best-of-five series 3-0.
Shanice Marcelle (Victoria, BC) was named MVP of the Match after coming off the bench in the second and leading Dresdner with 17 kills. As a cherry on top, she also scored the game-winning kill, a little déjà-vu from last season.
Winning the Bundesliga wraps-up one of the best seasons on record for Dresdner SC. A 29-2 record through league play and playoffs, the favourites all year long dominated the Bundesliga and never once took a step down from their perch.
The win also confirms their spot in the CEV Champions League for next season, where they'll be hoping for a little more success. They finished eighth in the Champions League this year with a record of 3-3, including a five-set upset over Dynamo Moscow at home, but didn't manage to get out of the group stage.
The only thing left for them to do is capture the DVV Cup, something Dresdner hasn't done since 2010. They were upset by Vilsbiburg in the quarters this year, will 2016 be the year they go for the three-peat and the sweep?
