FIVB: Broder/Valjas Roll Into Lucerne Semis
Jamie Broder (Victoria, BC) and Kristina Valjas (Toronto, On) are the hottest team in the FIVB at the moment as they continue their winning streak and move on the the Lucerne Open semi-finals.
The pair went undefeated in Pool Play to grab a by to the second round where they defeated hometown favourites Forrer/Vergé-Dépré 21-19, 21-18. Next up was Bieneck/Grobner of Germany. The Germans came out strong in the first, taking it 21-15, but the Canadians weren't ready to drop their first match of the year yet. They came back to win an absolute marathon of a match, 25-23 and 18-16.
Next up is the Dutch pair of Meppelink/Van Iersel at 1:00 p.m. EDT/ 10:00 a.m. PDT on Court 1 in the semi-finals. Broder/Valjas are looking to get back to their second-straight final after a historic gold medal win at the Fuzhou Open a few weeks ago, the first FIVB medal for Canadian woman's volleyball.
