CanAm Volleyball Holiday Showcase

Christmas is over, but the gifts keep on coming! This year, we’ll be blessed with a rare treat that has the potential to be an instant Holiday Classic - the CanAm Volleyball Holiday Showcase!

Pitting four of the best uSports men’s volleyball program against four of the best NCAA programs in a four-day tournament featuring the top talent in North America, kicking off on Saturday December 28th at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough. The tournament features both the reigning uSports Champions - the Trinity Western Spartans, and the reigning NCAA Champions - the Long Beach State 49ers.

Joining the Spartans from the uSports ranks are the McMaster Marauders, the Alberta Golden Bears, and the Ryerson Rams, while the UCLA Bruins, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Lewis Flyers will make the trip north as well.

This gives us the chance to get some insight into a debate keyboard warriors from both sides of the 49th Parallel have tried to argue; who’s better? Men’s volleyball is the only Canadian sport that doesn’t rely on the NCAA to develop its athletes - with 100% of the Canadian national team coming from the Canadian system.

Of course, it can’t be a 100% accurate comparison - uSports teams are halfway through their season while the NCAA teams are still in the pre season. But at the very least it will definitely be entertaining!
