AVP Huntington | Huntington Beach, California

Dominating the World Tour isn’t enough for Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan as they have remained undefeated into this mornings semis at the first AVP of the year in Huntington Beach

Mel & Sarah aren’t the only Canadians who were playing down in Huntington. Chaim Schalk is now a full-time AVP Pro, and has partnered with Jeremy Casebeer to start this season. The pair pushed all the way through to the quarterfinals before falling to Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb and dropping to the Contenders Bracket. They finished with a 5th after coming up short in an absolute marathon match against Tim Bomgren and Troy Field to close out Saturday. Schalk & Casebeer were down 8-14 at the freeze in the 3rd - and fought back to take a match-point of their own, going up 15-14 thanks to Casebeer’s serving. It wasn’t to be though - as Field and Bomgren dominated the net play to close out the match 19-17 in a match that lasted over two hours.

Brandie Wilkerson, who has quickly become a crowd favourite on the AVP, teamed up with fellow big Kelly Claes, and showed up on Friday wearing matching one-piece suits - and absolutely rocked them.

*AVP tournaments feature a “score-freeze” on Match Point - once a team is in a position to win the match, old-school sideout scoring comes into play where only the team with serve can score points.
