WCH: Pavan and Melissa On to Semis in Hamburg

Melissa Humaña-Paredes and Sarah Pavan find themselves in familiar territory, moving on to the semi-finals at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

The pair holds a 6-0 record after dismantling Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth 21-12, 21-12 this morning in the quarterfinals.

Next up is the surprise of the tournament - Switzerland’s Nina Betschart and Tanya Hüberli have played spoiler from two of Brazil’s top teams, taking down the #4 ranked team Ana Patricia/Rebecca yesterday in the round of 16 and following that up with a come-from-behind 2-1 (13-21, 21-19, 15-13) win over #12 ranked Fernanda/Barbara.

The other semi-final features two teams Mel & Sarah know well, as Australia’s Taliqua Clancy & Mariafe Artacho Del Solar will face April Ross & Alix Klineman of the USA. The pair bested the Australians on home turf in last year’s Commonwealth Games Final, and have met the Americans twice in Gold Medal Matches, falling both times in three-sets.
