Update: Canadian 2012 FIVB World League Dates Confirmed
The Canadian National Men's Volleyball team has qualified for the 2012 edition of FIVB World League. Today, The FIVB has announced the dates for the Canadian part of Pool B's pool play. Canada will host Brazil, Poland and Finland at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto from May 18th - 20th 2012.
This location and timing couldn't be better for the Canadian volleyball scene. The 2012 Canadian Volleyball National Championships will be taking place right next door at the Direct Energy Centre from May 17th - 22nd. These championships are expected to bring in 800 teams across 14 divisions with ages ranging from 12 to 65 years old. Including spectators, volunteers, officials and organizers, the event's attendance is projected to be around 45 000. That is 45 000 people who a) like volleyball and b) are a stone's throw away from seeing the best indoor men's volleyball action going on in the world. Chances are they're gonna walk up the street and go check out these games.
Because of the condensed World League season due to the 2012 London Olympics, there will be two matches each day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. This will put a tremendous amount of pressure on all the teams to perform at the highest level with little rest between matches.
