FIVB: Six Canadian Teams in Main Draw
Qualification is done here at the World Series of Beach Volleyball and three of the five Canadian teams in action today will join the other three teams already qualified for the Main Draw.
Josh Binstock and Sam Schacter started things off for Canada with a 21-13, 21-14 win over Australia, and followed up with a big 21-19, 21-12 over Americans Stafford Slick and Will Montgomery to clinch their spot in the tournament.
Melissa Humana-Paredes and Taylor Pischke had an easy road with a solid 21-7, 21-9 win over Venezuela to qualify for their first Main Draw of the season.
Finally, Maverick Hatch and Christian Redmann clinched their third-straight Main Draw, but it came at the expense of Sam Pedlow and Grant O'Gorman. Hatch-Redmann came out firing on all cylinders, taking the first 21-14. The beginning of the second set was a much tighter affair, with the teams being all tied up at 14, but Hatch/Redmann pushed it out for the win, taking that one 21-15.
Kacie MacTavish and Caleigh Whitaker were inches away from qualifying as well. They took the opener 21-13 over Kazakhstan, and had the advantage 15-11 in the 2nd. It wasn't meant to be as the Kazaks pushed back to take the 2nd set 21-19, then finished it off 15-9 in the third.
