FIVB: Beach World Championship Draws
The teams are in and the draws are set for the 2015 FIVB World Beach Volleyball Championships in The Netherlands this year.
Canada has four teams competing at the biggest event on the FIVB calendar going down June 26-July 5th, and here's where they stand.
2014 FIVB Rookie of the Year Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, On) and Taylor Piscke (Winnipeg, Mb) are one of the youngest teams competing at the competition, but are currently ranked No. 23 in the world. In Pool A with host Meppelink/ Van Iersel (World No. 12), Kazakstan's Mashkova/Tsimbalova (World No. 88) and Guatemala's Orellana sisters (World No. 238). Pool A will be played in The Hague, the location of the finals.
Heather Bansley (Toronto, On) and Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, On) are Canada's other female pairing, and they will be competing in Pool C. The pair go in ranked 25th in the World, and will have some stiff competition with World No. 2 and favourites Kerri Walsh and April Ross from the United States. Their other opponents in Apeldoorn will be Laird/Artacho Del Solar from Australia (World No. 44) and Brakeman/Sinnema from The Netherlands. (Brakeman - No. 94, Sinnema - No. 212)
On the guys side of things, Josh Binstock (Richmond Hill, On) and Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, On) will be looking to continue their red-hot end to last year right to Rotterdam where Pool D will be played. The world No. 24 will be competing against No. 3 ranked Fijalek/Prudel from Poland, Jackson/Fane from Venezuela (World No. 58) and Egypt's Usama/Ayman (Not ranked).
Ben Saxton (Calgary, Ab) and Chaim Schalk (Red Deer, Ab) have a chance to make some noise in Pool H, appropriately being played in The Hague. They'll face world No. 10 Erdman/Matysik from Germany, Krou/Rowlandson (World No. 31) from France and South Africans Goldschmidt/Williams (World No. 445).
