The Consolation Semi-Finals were played out on Saturday, to decide which two teams were to compete for fifth place overall in Men's CIS Volleyball. The two matches to be played on Saturday were McMaster vs. UNB, and Alberta vs. Sherbrooke. The winning teams will play on Sunday, March 5th, at 12:00 pm PST. All of the teams playing today had to deal with a first round elimination on Friday. The emotional drain of having to reassess your goals can often reak havoc on a teams performance. These four squads, each representing a different feeder league for the CIS, had to pull it together to represent their respective provinces appropriately.

Laval Rouge et Or vs. UNB Varsity Reds
The very first match of the 2011 CIS National Championships featured Laval
against the University of New Brunswick. These two teams, both being from the
Eastern side of Ontario, had met multiple times through the year. Laval, regularly
ranked first nationwide, came in as the heavy favourite against a team that
generally hung around 10th ranked in the country. However, recently crowned
CIS Coach of the Year Dan McMorran and his boys had other thoughts on their
minds.

York Excalibur Tournament Bronze Medal Match
Western Mustangs vs. UNB Varsity Reds
The Gold Medal Match of the York Excalibur Tournament was contested between the Western Mustangs and the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. The two teams met earlier in the tournament, during round robin play. UNB came out with a victory in straight sets, but even their head coach Dan McMorran acknowledged both teams were throwing varied lineups at each other. Thursday night brought out the heavyweight lineups as the OUA and AUS aggressively played it out for Gold.
Day two of the Excalibur Classic brings an end to pool play and continues with playoffs. After the very surpirsing results of Day one, these eight teams will hit the court again to play their last pool play match at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.. Starting at 3:30 p.m. we have the first round of playoffs, starting with the consolation semifinal matches. The championship semifinal matches will take place at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
As always, we will be covering these events live. Check back for more scores and pictures after the jump.
